3 Must-Know DaVinci Resolve Features for Optimizing Your Color Grading Workflow

In this valuable article, I will talk about 3 features of DaVinci Resolve that you can not miss!

Take your cup of coffee and get comfortable because we are about to begin!

1) Eliminating the white frame from the still viewer

Sometimes, in order to perform checks, it is necessary to activate the split-screen mode to view 3-4 different clips at the same time.

At this point, however, if you are a perfectionist like me, you will notice that one of the stills is surrounded by a very annoying white border.

To visually remove that white border, you just have to click on View>Split Screen and deselect "Show Outline" ... Done!

2) Live Saving

I'll be honest with you: when I work, I want to focus as much as possible on the artistic part of that particular project.

One of the things I willingly avoid for a long time is having a constant voice in my head that tells me "Hey, click on save, you haven't done it for a while!"

DaVinci Resolve puts at our disposal a function called Live Save that often saves our lives.

In short, DaVinci Resolve takes care of constantly saving your project so, if anything should happen, you will not lose absolutely anything.

To activate the Live Save function go to: Preferences>User>Project save and load>Live save

3) Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts? I know, it really seems trivial but ... let's talk about it.

Keyboard shortcuts have been there for years but, despite everything, few people have really realized the power of this feature, using it to their advantage.

You can decide to work with the basic keyboard shortcuts provided by the software, customize them to your needs or even create new custom shortcuts from scratch.

Years ago, I therefore decided to invest some time in understanding how to use this function to the fullest of its potential, customizing some shortcuts and creating others from scratch, based on the needs of my workflow.

The result was nothing short of exceptional. Since then, my workflow has been much more fluid and my productivity on DaVinci Resolve has increased exponentially.

Soon after, I decided that it was time to take everything to a higher level, integrating keyboard shortcuts into my trusted Elgato Stream Deck.

I must be honest with you: I do not believe it is possible to work faster than this.

Those who watch my Instagram stories, know very well how much I have benefited from the use of the Stream Deck. Several times, in fact, I have received messages in which information was requested regarding the secrets of my Stream Deck profile.

When I realized how many people could benefit from my Stream Deck profile, I decided to export it and make it available to anyone who wants to optimize and improve their workflow on DaVinci Resolve.

Conclusion:

I hope the information in this article has been helpful to you.

I believe it is essential to know these 3 functions that DaVinci Resolve makes available to its users and use them to your advantage.
